Training

Recognizing the immense need for evidence-based training, Lift the Children and our colleagues at the Child Abuse Prevention Center develop education and training programs for our partners and other professionals working in child abuse and neglect prevention. At the request of both small NGOs and large international agencies, including UNICEF and World Learning, we have trained staff in hospitals, family resource centers, shelters for victims of human trafficking, government social service agencies, and family style homes for children deprived of parental care. Funding, training and technical assistance delivered at our Sacramento headquarters and abroad have helped our partners and other child welfare professionals develop new materials and replicate innovative child and family services designed to keep families together and children safe and out of institutions.

Our mission is to promote a healthy and prosperous future for children, their families and communities, by enhancing the capacities of those who serve them. By assisting these individuals and organizations in developing their knowledge and skills, we can improve the outcomes of children and families.

The training and development we provide is based on three core principles:

  1. Competency-Based Training. Training and technical assistance should be geared toward building the knowledge, skills and behaviors that are directly geared to competencies needed to provide quality family support services.
  2. Tailored Curricula. The adage that “one size fits all” is not true for training. While the concepts and information may be the same for two different organizations, the examples, delivery method, language, and key objectives must be tailored to the needs and culture of those being trained. We assess these individual needs prior to any training workshop.
  3. Long Term Access. Our goals go beyond the delivery of a workshop; Lift the Children strives to build long-term partnerships by making our staff, resources, and materials available on an ongoing basis. We encourage a continued dialogue with our partners so that we may grow together.

Our training and development is offered to individuals who want one specific workshop or those who want to develop a professional concentration in a particular area. We also provide workshops and technical assistance for organization teams. Training may be provided both at our state-of-the-art training facility and at international locations convenient to our partners.

In addition to Lift the Children, the CAP Center is home to three other agencies that share the goals of preventing child abuse and neglect, supporting stable and healthy families, and building strong communities. These agencies are Prevent Child Abuse California, the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Sacramento, and Child Abuse Research and Evaluation (CARE). Collectively, these agencies provide services, promote collaboration, conduct research and advocacy in California, nationally, and internationally. Although our headquarters are located in Sacramento, California, our network of child abuse prevention is international.

We invite you to contact Lift the Children at the CAP Center to find out how we can work together.

We look forward to hearing from you.
